Apple’s 15 Bionic launched in September with the iPhone 13 family as usual, but we’ve yet to see Qualcomm’s rival solution, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Early benchmark results are now out and they suggest the hype surrounding the SoC’s new Adreno GPU may be justified.
Renowned tipster IceUniverse shared some screenshots showing how Apple’s A15 Bionic and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 pack a punch in various GPU tests. There’s no statistically significant difference in the GFXBench T Rex offscreen test, but in the Manhattan offscreen ES 3.0 test, Qualcomm’s contender scored 267 frames — about 24% higher than Apple’s silicon. However, in the 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited run, the Snapdragon got a 12% lower score.

This is the first time in a while that the Qualcomm chip has been able to match and even beat Apple’s hardware in terms of sheer processing power. But of course, more tests are needed to know for sure whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will take the crown as the most powerful SoC.
