Ming-Chi Kuo refines an earlier prediction and now says that a new model of AirPods Pro is expected by the end of 2022.
After the AirPods Pro release in October 2019, the rumors of a new version started almost immediately after that. Now it looks like a release period has been fine-tuned.
In a note to investors seen by Gadgets PriceApple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that the devices will be ready in the fourth calendar quarter of 2022. This is the closest prediction yet made, with the first suggesting 2022, the follow-up the second half of 2022. , and the most recent ruling the fourth calendar quarter of 2022.
This time frame puts it around Apple’s traditional fall release window.
Continued product leaks for new AirPods Pro have revealed a shortened stem for the product. Kuo has not commented on that this time, but does suspect that “the main chip may be upgraded significantly”.
AirPods Pro are also reportedly getting a redesign that will add updated motion trackers for bigger fitness applications. That redesign will reportedly include an all-new interior and perhaps two different sizes.
In Wednesday’s note, Kuo suspects that Luxshare-ICT will be a primary supplier of the product.
Previously, Kuo has said that the AirPods and Beats platforms as a whole at a wide price range are important for future growth for Apple, and may be a “halo” product for the company as a whole.
“AirPods are more expensive, target Apple device users, and aim to provide innovation and eco-experience to increase value,” says Kuo. “Beats are cheaper, target Apple and non-Apple device users, and increase shipments or market share.”
